PEOPLE BEHIND YOUR CARE
Congrong Zhang, DPT, is a physical therapist at the Manhattan office. He earned his DPT at the University of Florida after studying Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His work combines orthopedic and neuromuscular rehabilitation with an interest in strength, movement and returning to daily activities.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Congrong earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Florida. Before that, he completed a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
His studies bring together the science of movement and clinical rehabilitation. The Psychology minor is a further part of his undergraduate background, alongside his later professional physical therapy education.
He also has a personal-training background and an interest in fitness. Strength training and functional movement are recurring themes in his approach to helping patients work toward daily and recreational activities.
His clinical interests include orthopedic and neuromuscular rehabilitation, sports injuries and chronic musculoskeletal concerns. He works with upper- and lower-extremity problems as well as neck and lower-back concerns.
The activities affected are an important part of the discussion. A shoulder problem may matter most at work or during exercise; a hip, knee or ankle concern may change how someone walks or manages everyday tasks.
Congrong’s approach combines manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, gait training and neuromuscular re-education. His interests in fitness and personal training add a focus on strength, endurance and movement that carries over into everyday life.
He works with goals such as restoring mobility and returning to daily or recreational activities. Explaining what you need to do—and what currently gets in the way—helps make those goals specific.
He speaks English and Chinese and also provides Medical Pilates. Tell the Manhattan office your preferred language and the type of appointment you are seeking.
His work can also involve Blood Flow Restriction training, often shortened to BFR, and Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation, or NMES. These techniques may be discussed as part of rehabilitation; they are not a required part of every appointment.
Which methods are appropriate depends on the assessment, health history and goals of the person attending. A consultation is the right place to ask what a proposed technique is intended to address and how it would fit the rest of the plan.
Bring relevant medical, imaging or rehabilitation information and any restrictions you have been given after an injury or operation. Note the daily tasks, exercise or recreational activities you would most like to return to.
When booking, explain whether you are seeking a physical therapy evaluation or Medical Pilates. The Manhattan contact and appointment options below can help you arrange the intended visit.
